Preparing Your Home for Guests- A Cleaning Checklist

Whenever we have guests over, it always comes down to the nitty-gritty of cleaning. Not one thing out of place, not one spot or blemish ruining the picture- we allow ourselves absolutely no faults. And the pressure is almost definitely at an all-time high during this period. To make your life easier, here’s a checklist of things you should remember to take care of when having guests over for the holidays.

Carpet Stains

Carpet stains can be especially stubborn to remove and equally horrifying to present to your guests. Make sure to take care of these stains, either by buying some products or making some home remedies yourself. For example, for general stains you can give warm water with a little bit of liquid dish detergent a try. If those stains are still stubborn, there are still some things you could be trying before enlisting store-bought help. For example, for food and mud stains, all you have to do is mix 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts hot water, spray the area and then blot away. There’s a home remedy for every stain so don’t forget to give them a shot before moving on to other methods!

Mattress Duty

A mattress can contain sweat, mould, dust mites and various other fluids you didn’t even know of (especially if you share them with kids). Don’t forget to put the sheets to wash and thoroughly vacuum your mattress. You can treat the mattress for any stains and also (tip!) deodorize it with baking soda. Yes, you heard that right. Scrubbing baking soda into your mattress is a home remedy that helps get rid of odours. You can run the vacuum through once again after this step.

Walls and Ceilings

Don’t forget to get rid of the dust that’s collecting on your ceilings and walls. It’s best if you start with the ceiling of course and then move your way down.

Your curtains too could be harbouring a great deal of dust and other allergens. They can also give off quite a musty smell if they haven’t been washed in some time. This is something you might not notice, but your guest undoubtedly will so make sure to take those curtains down and give them a wash. Open up the windows and air your house while you’re at it to get some more fresh air into the house.

There’s only so much cleaning you can do but at the end of the day, you are going to need some professional help. Make a list of all the areas in the house that need seeing to. This may be a damaged roof, leaks or even roof/gutter cleaning, in which case you can head on over to narre warren for a thorough service. Don’t forget other areas such as plumbing, gardening etc.

Put all these tasks together, work them into your daily routine so you don’t have to cram last minute when preparing for those guests and you’ll have a pristine household in no time!
